The song is a stylised morse-code in praise of whistleblowers. 'Loose lips sink ships', coined in the Second World War, is, quite simply, a brilliant piece of propoganda. Four monosyllabic words encompass the demands of total war. Even a seemingly banal conversation in the workplace can be transformed into a physical threat that imperils the very survival of the nation. The imagery of both external and internal enemies has become a a powerful propaganda tool in maintaining domestic control by the national security state, justifying draconians forms of surveillance. Whistleblowers have shown immense courage in exposing the anti-democratic activies of the surveillance state. Instead of facing imprisonment or exile, they deserve our lasting gratitude.
