The original vision of socialist writers and activists like William Morris in the 19th century, stressed how industrial society could be organised in ways that shared out necessary work equitably, while providing free time for cultural and artistic activities. A post-carbon economy, providing socially-useful work, is entirely feasible and with it, the liberation of time to release the creative potential of working people.
